DAVID ROTHERMEL
American artist, David Rothermel was born in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, a small town located at the confluence of the north and west branches of the Susquehanna River. David first studied art at York Academy of Arts and later graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. He went on to study for two summers under preëminent American masters at the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture in Maine.
In 1981, David moved to New Mexico where he initially worked as an art director, painting 10-foot by 40-foot billboards. While fulfilling his yearning for painting on a large scale, he fell from a scaffold and broke both arms. This event was a turning point in his life, moving him to reconsider his life path and to set his career as a professional artist on its original track. Today, he lives and works in Santa Fe.
David Rothermel's abstract and landscape paintings are included in many private, corporate and public collections. His work is represented in galleries in Scottsdale, Aspen, Washington DC, Chevy Chase, Baltimore and in his gallery in Santa Fe. Recently two of his watercolors were added to the nationally recognized permanent collection of the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, Maine.
